Pick of the Week
This Satirical Thriller
Director Coralie Fargeat's daring critique examines the tyranny of women's appearance as well as the perceived horrors of advancing years. Demi Moore presents an inspired performance as Elisabeth, a mature actress demoted to hosting a fitness program on television. Edged out thanks to her deceitful superior Harvey, she undergoes a mysterious and gruesome treatment known as the Substance. This creates a youthful duplicate named Sue, leading to a steadily more toxic connection between them. October 17th, Paramount+
The Woman in Cabin 10
This classic whodunit thriller stars Knightley in the role of Laura, a skilled journalist who decides to take a hiatus from writing about international wars to embark on a luxury cruise alongside a gravely sick Norwegian shipping heiress and charitable figure, her spouse, plus additional extremely wealthy individuals. Yet once an enigmatic female falls into the sea overnight and all passengers claims she was never there, the reporter's sleuthing skills take over. Available now, Netflix
Presence Film
Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries in this clever ghostly tale captured wholly from the perspective of the spirit. When a household featuring mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their fresh home, the filming device – AKA the Presence – shadows their actions. The daughter appears conscious of the poltergeist, and it looks like defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that doesn't outstay its welcome, including a revelation that may be unexpected. October 11th, multiple showings, Sky Cinema
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
The iconic actor wholeheartedly adopts his eccentric image through this autobiographical spoof. He portrays a self-obsessed Hollywood actor playing himself who agrees to a $1m payday to visit a festive event at a Mediterranean location for billionaire superfan Javi. Recruited by government spies to spy on the alleged criminal, the actor's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” is put to the test. October 11th, evening, Channel 4
The Black Phone
The director's locked-room horror holds up well despite the lack of a continuation. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of child abductions has left the youth frightened. After Finney is taken by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a basement, he dreads a fatal end. However, the disconnected phone in the room repeatedly calls, with ghostly voices providing assistance, while the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen could save him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, the Film4 channel
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for greed in Showalter's delightfully tacky true story about the fallen televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield acts as the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. The couple commence monetising the nation's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and hypocrisy, though Jessica Chastain succeeds to present Tammy Faye in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
This Espionage Thriller

His assignment is with uncovering a mole inside the organization from five suspects – among them is his spouse. The two stars are masters of deadpan cool, so a delicious psychological game of truth or lie unfolds. The supporting cast take part the smart espionage amusement.
