A person who contaminated treats with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two young males both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson called the police again.
She said Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
