Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
