Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
